Wordpress default pings

Wordpress automatically pings Ping-o-matic about any new posts on blog. (Ping-o-matic’s ping url is preset in the default install.) Apparently, someone who wanted to keep his blog away from spiders found this out later. At first glance, it looks like an option someone would miss in the first attempt at configuring WordPress. And possibly something that the unsuspecting new user should be notified about?

Anyhow, if you’re serious about keeping the journal private, and want to put it up on the web, use .htaccess/htpasswd, or similar methods applicable to your webserver to prevent unauthorized access.
